Welcome to Zeitspace, Dylan Cooper

Written by Mark Connolly | Mar 6, 2017

Dylan Cooper is our very first co-op software engineer, and he’s been with us since the beginning of January. But as we’re a small and busy company with plenty to keep us busy, we’re only now getting around to introducing him here on the company blog.

Dylan joins us from the computer science program at the University of Guelph, a program may not be as well known as others, but is a fine source of software developers. Since joining us, he’s being working on our first project, an iOS App.

We asked him a few questions to give us some tidbits to share here.

Why software development?

I started programming in high school with QBasic and VB6 and knew right away that I would pursue a career in software. I’ve always liked puzzles, problem solving and math, so software development was a great fit for me.

What kind of development do you like? Mobile? Web? Something else?

I’m happy working in a web development setting and am enjoying learning the ins and outs of mobile development. Ultimately, I don’t really have a preference — as long as the problem is interesting I’ll be happy.

Recommend one thing (maybe a book, movie, album, TV show, physical experience…). Why?

An album: The Baron, by Johnny Cash (1981). I’m listening to it right now.

What’s your favourite new discovery in Waterloo Region?

Rana Taste of Turkish, in downtown Kitchener. If you go there, I recommend the Beef Doner Kebab Plate. You get a mix of different foods, and they pack a lot of flavor into an inexpensive takeout container.
