We’re excited to announce that Janine Swallow has joined the Zeitpace team as a designer. We asked Janine a few questions for this post, and amidst a busy first week she sent us some answers.
Why UX design?
My passion is helping people and UX design provides a wide avenue for me to that in so many ways. Depending on what is being designed the end result is always people are able to accomplish tasks they set out to do, whether through an app or website or other application. It challenges me to think outside the box and be open with curiosity. Lastly, it teaches you to be humble, especially when your thoughts are challenged by research!
What kind of design do you like? Mobile? Web? Something else?
Hands down web! Okay, okay fine, it is my comfort zone with my background mostly being in this area. I find there is more flexibility and freedom in design and problem solving versus some of the constraints of following mobile OS standards. Outside of UX design, I love designing personal brands and signage.
Recommend one thing (maybe a book, movie, album, TV show, physical experience...). Why?
I recommend an energy healing session! We have some amazing reiki practitioners in the KW area and a session is pure magic leaving you feeling refreshed and peaceful (plus many other benefits!). It has been one of my go-to options for wellness throughout COVID because it can be done from a distance since it works with the energy fields of your body.
What's your favourite new (or old) discovery in Waterloo Region?
My favourite new discovery in Waterloo Region is Earlidale Meats outside of Floradale! I found them this winter while searching for beef tallow. They have a huge selection of fresh and frozen meats, cheese (hello cheese curds!), and eggs. All of their products are from local farms in the area.
Share a cool thing that folks might like to know about you.
I have been riding horses since I was three years old and have competed in various disciplines over the years, from carriage driving and jumping to mounted games. I currently own three horses. One of them was born on my farm in 2006.
