Say hello to Joe Maiolo, who we’re delighted has joined our merry band of product makers at Zeitspace. In the Q&A below we learn a little more about his interests.
When I was in Grade 10 I randomly decided to take a Computer Science course. For my final project I spent way too many hours creating a game where a tiny UFO escaped earth. That’s when I realized that programming could draw me in more than any other type of project. Also, my brother-in-law and older cousin (but not my older brother) all went to school for Computer Science.
Currently I’m more into web development because that’s what I’ve been up to in my career so far. I like creating web applications that can be used from any platform. I’ve enjoyed using public API’s to turn random ideas into applications that are helpful and fun to use.
I recently started using the website letterboxd.com. It allows you to keep track of all the movies you’ve seen, and the ones you still want to see. If you’re into movies, I’d recommend checking it out.
After a few co-op placements in Ottawa, I developed a minor addiction to shawarma. In Kitchener, my favourite shawarma place is Arabesque. That’s not just because the portion sizes are hefty. They also have deep fried cheese.
I play rec league sports. Right now I’m in a frisbee league and a flag football league. I also just bought a bike to get to work, and it’s been fun getting back into that.
