Liam Yeates has joined Zeitspace as a software engineer and, as you might imagine, we’re happy to have him on the team. We asked him our usual batch of questions, and he provided his answers so that we could share them with you here.
Why software development?
I really enjoy the industry and the problem solving. I did a couple of co-ops in manufacturing early in my undergrad and it was not for me. Then as I started to take more software course and co-op I started getting way more into software development. The problems are fun and everything seems like the puzzles and brain teasers I used to solve growing up. Basically I choose it because it is what I would do in my free time anyway so why not try and make a career out of it too.
What kind of development do you like? Mobile? Web? Something else?
Definitely Web for me. I've done some mobile but I like the problems that you see in web development more. I've done mobile dev on co-ops and in my spare time but Web you just have so many more ways to approach and solve problems.
Recommend one thing (maybe a book, movie, album, TV show, physical experience…) Why?
Spiderman: Far From Home. I saw it on the weekend, and it is wonderful. The new Spiderman movie and cast do a great job of capturing the feel of the comics. Its just a fun movie all around with great performances from every actor.
What’s your favourite new (or old) discovery in Waterloo Region?
The Downtown Kitchener. There is just something different and fun happening each week. All the events are well organized and gives you something to do pretty much every weekend.
Share a cool thing that folks might like to know about you?
I don't know. I have an adorable American Bulldog named Peaches. She'd look a lot more intimidating if she could keep her tongue in her mouth.
