It’s always fun to start off the new year with a new face around the virtual meeting room at Zeitspace. Mike Dwyer has joined us as an engineering lead and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Have a look at his responses to our welcome questions to find out which podcast he’s been tuning into lately.
Why software development?
I got into software development in university. Initially, I wanted to increase my skill set on my way to becoming a teacher. However, I quickly discovered how much I enjoyed it.
What kind of development do you like? Mobile? Web? Something else?
I’ve always found myself drawn to web development. I love how it gives me an outlet to express my creativity in challenging and rewarding ways.
Recommend one thing (maybe a book, movie, album, TV show, physical experience…) Why?
I recently discovered the podcast “Cocaine and Rhinestones.” It is about the history of country music in the 20th century. While I'm not a huge fan of country music by any means, the stories are so fascinating and engaging. If you’re a music fan at all, you will find something to like with this podcast.
What’s your favourite new (or old) discovery in Waterloo Region?
I’m going to play a little loose with the definition of “Waterloo Region” and say African Lion Safari. My family started going there when my daughter was a toddler. Seven years later and it is still one of our favourite places to go.
Share a cool thing that folks might like to know about you.
I’m a great “Embarrassing Dad.” I love joking and goofing around with my two kids. Whether at home or in public, I’m always looking for ways to make them laugh and/or roll their eyes at me :)
