What's that? Another new face at Zeitspace? Why, yes indeed! We’re pleased to announce that Tyler Delaat has joined our team as a software engineer. Here’s a chance to meet Tyler through our now-standard questions where some responses include fruit trees, 3D modelling, and more.
As a kid, I grew up around computers and was always fascinated with them. I knew even as a kid that whatever I did with my life, I wanted it to involve computers. I worked in IT throughout high school and while completing my university degree, but what I really wanted to do was make things. Writing software fills that desire.
I think each type of software development presents its own challenges and is interesting in its own unique way. Recently, I’ve had a lot of fun writing software for vintage computers with limited resources. Making the most of the available resources is always an interesting (and sometimes frustrating) challenge.
Play a tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) with friends. I had never played a complete campaign in any tabletop prior to the pandemic, but it turned out that it was a great way to socialize in spite of everyone quarantining themselves. Many traditional TTRPGs, such as Dungeons and Dragons, are designed with long campaigns in mind, but I’ve recently had a lot of fun playing short one-off indie RPGs with my friends. We’ve been playing through CRASH PANDAS, which is a game about a group of raccoons all trying to drive the same car at the same time.
I only recently moved to the Waterloo area, so this may not come as a surprise to some, but I noticed there are quite a number of fruit trees growing in plain sight on public trails if you know what to look for.
I really enjoy both 3D modelling and 3D printing in my spare time. It’s satisfying to be able to create a physical version of something designed in a 3D modelling or CAD program.
